How to Express your Gratitude - 3 Easy Tips

Every Hazelmade card is blank inside so that it is customizable to any occasion and your voice can shine. Today I wanted to share a few tips for thank you cards as I continue my series of newsletters with cardwriting tips.

Thank you cards are a wonderful way to acknowledge how someone's presence or act of kindness impacted you. However, it can be daunting to figure out exactly what to say to the recipient, especially if their help or favor meant a lot to you. No matter if you are writing thank you cards to friends, family, or to a coworker, here are 3 easy tips to take your thank you cards to the next level.

1. State the "Why"

After the greeting, it's good to state why you are sending a thank you note. Did the recipient do you a favor or give you a gift? Be specific in the act or gesture that you are grateful for because sometimes the recipient may not even realize what they did to make your day.

2. Share your Feelings

It feels rewarding to hear how an act of kindness affects others. Consider adding a few sentences about how it felt to receive the recipient's kindness-what their gift meant to you, how their presence helped you, etc. Make sure to be specific so the recipient can share in those feelings as well.

3. Mention the Future

Near the end of your note, it is good to consider how the recipient's act of kindness affects or will affect your relationship in the future. For corporate thank yous, do you look forward to working with the person more? For personal thank you notes, do you want to arrange for a visit or a call?

I started Hazelmade because I wanted to create functional pieces of art that bring people together. So, I am honored that many of you choose to use my cards to thank others in your life. Thank YOU for everything you do to support me, from sharing feedback to choosing my work to be part of your gifts, homes, and lives.

I hope this inspires you (as much as it did me!) to confidently write more letters and cards this season. And, if you like this series, please reach out to share what type of card you would like to learn about next!
